Portfolio

This is a portfolio of my most recent projects. As I tend not to do a great deal of freelance work—unless I am definitely available—the main body of work under my belt has been completed on behalf of my respective employer and as such is not featured here. For a list of sites I have worked on in my full-time capacity please view my Curriculum Vitae.

Design and development—XHTML, CSS, Wordpress, CSS3, Progressive Enhancement, Identity

Suzanna Haworth is an amateur photographer from Leeds, she had got back into photography after a long spell away from the hobby, and as her skills advanced rapidly she decided she needed a website to support her Flickr account, and also show her work in a more personalised manner.

Suzanna had no design ideas of her own, nor any form of logo/identity. As such, I had free reign over what was produced and I got to use some quite nice CSS3 and progressive enhancement on the Wordpress based site. Suzanna was very pleased with the end result, as am I.

Design and development—XHTML, CSS, PHP, CSS3, Progressive Enhancement

Aaron Shaw, owner of RAAMaudio UK Ltd, got in touch with me after having an identity project completed by Euan Mackenzie. He wanted a small, simple site from which he could advertise his business. He had no design ideas in mind, so I was lucky enough to have complete creative license on the design and build.

DVD Box Sets

Development—XHTML, CSS

I was approached by Greg Findley to take a design he’d done in Photoshop, and provide him with a fully semantic, accessible and lightweight coded final piece.

N.B. This version of the site is no longer live, however I thought I’d include it as it demonstrates ability to take pre-designed websites and apply sensible coding techniques to them.

Whitley Golf

Design and development—XHTML, CSS, PHP, Identity, Wordpress

Joe Whitley, an existing client, got in touch with me as he wanted a blog site from which he could write articles on a number of subjects within the golf industry. He had very few ideas for the design, but was dead-set on Wordpress as a CMS. By working together over a period of weeks we came up with the ideal solution—a blog site which provides content for a large number of return visitors.

Design and development—XHTML, CSS, PHP, iPhone

After the success of Web Design+ I decided that I would create a more bite-size selection of tips and tricks. There is also a pretty solid iPhone version of Quick Tips too.

Whitley Journalism

Design and development—XHTML, CSS, PHP

Joe Whitley, as a freelance journalist and copywriter, contacted me about the possibility of designing and building a small portfolio and blog website where he could share his knowledge of the industry and also showcase his works.

Having no set ideas for the design of his website, Joe and I worked together to come up with the final result.

Web Design+—personal

Design and development—XHTML, CSS, PHP

Having spent the previous few years rapidly learning anything and everything I could about web standards, I decided to put all that information into Web Design+. The document was a large investment of time and knowledge on my part but it has paid off. I have received recognition from throughout the industr from the likes of Smashing Magazine, Boagworld and more. Web Design+ is also being used by Newcastle University (among others) as a teaching aid for their students.
